Training & Consignment Program

Our facilities at the historic Long Branch Estate in White Post, Virginia allow for a few training and consignment horses. We pride ourselves on individual attention to each horse in our care, designing a training, feeding, and management program to accommodate each horse’s needs.  Whether it is starting a youngster, helping a horse advance through the levels, or having your horse move on to the perfect new home, we are eager to work with you to help your horse perform at it’s best.

Because the number of horses we feel we can handle well is limited, we suggest you call to discuss your situation.

Rule of Thumb – 2013 FEH Champion

Rule of Thumb: 2010 16h bay Holsteiner gelding by Royal Appearance. Owned by Dawn Erdman. Originally purchased by Steplin LLC, “Roy” was purchased by Dawn Erdman in 2013 and placed into training with Melissa. He is by Royal Appearance out of Nadia, a Thoroughbred mare by Across the Field, the same sire at Phillip Dutton’s The Foreman. Brought along carefully, Roy took top honors in both the Future Event Horse and Young Event Horse programs, winning the 3-year-old Future Event Horse Championship as well as the 4-year-old Young Event Horse Championship. Roy is extremely brave and secure in himself, and has competed through the Preliminary level. Owner Dawn and rider Melissa are certainly enjoying his journey and hope to one day have him galloping around a four star event.

Master Eli

Master Eli: 2007 16.1h bay Irish Sport Horse gelding by Master Imp. Owned by Jeff Speagle.
Purchased as a surprise for Melissa, “Eli” joined the team in 2017. Previously campaigned to the two-star level by the late Phillipa Humphreys, Melissa is honored to have the ride on this talented gelding. While they are still getting to know each other, Eli has proven to be a reliable competitor and everyone is eager to see where the future takes them.

Balleghmore Castle C.

Ballaghmore Castle: 2009 16.3h bay Irish Sport Horse. Owned by Melissa.
Originally sourced by Steplin Sporthorses, Melissa quickly snagged this exciting young horse for herself. He is a big, strong Irish horse that Melissa has taken her time developing. He enjoyed some time off while she was pregnant with Koleton, and has since competed through the Preliminary level. “Chris” has lots of potential to go along with his big personality, and Melissa has high hopes for this character.
